(I apologize for this blog post being so late. We are busy learning in the classroom and having fun outside!)
Happy
2015!
I am hoping that
each and every one of you enjoyed your break as much as I did! That being said,
I am so happy to be back in the classroom with your kiddos!
As always keep
reviewing ALL letter sounds. Knowing all the letter sounds helps a child sound
out words while reading and/or writing.
Reading
Update:
We are still
finishing up unit three on homes & families. Next we will be moving into
unit four. Unit four is all about the outdoors/nature, weather, and seasons.

Math
Update:
Now that we know
our numbers 0-20, we are going to begin breaking them down.
For example:
The teen numbers
will be broken up into groups of tens and ones.
11 = 10 + 1 16 = 10 + 6
Another main
focus will be in finding the pairs that equal ten.
9 + 1 =10 8 + 2 = 10 7 + 3 = 10 6 + 4 = 10 5 + 5 = 10
We start be
introducing this concept with smaller numbers (3-9)
2 + 1 = 3 5 + 3 =8
Writing
Update:
We are working
really hard on speaking in full sentences and transitioning it into our
writing. We are learning to answer questions in complete thoughts/sentences and
using part of the question in the answer and adding supporting details. We call
this “college talk.”
For example:
If the question
is “Do you like snow?” The student’s response might be:
I like snow
because I like to build snowmen.
-or-
I do not like snow because it is too cold.
I do not like snow because it is too cold.
*I have already seen some progress in the kiddo's writing and it is AWESOME!
