I am having so much fun getting to know each and every student in my classroom. Their energy, personalities, and eagerness to learn are very encouraging!
Thoughts on Kindergarten:
Remember that children learn through play. Sometimes you may ask your child, "What did you learn in school?" The answer may be "nothing", or "we played." It may help if you ask more specific questions. For example, "What stories did you read today?" "What center was your favorite today?" This blog and a newsletter sent home each month are designed to let you know what we are learning and working on in the classroom so that you can be a part of your child's education.
Math:
We are currently working on number recognition (0-10), comparing numbers (more, less, equal), sorting/categorizing objects, and being able to count objects with one-to-one correspondence.
Reading/Writing:
We will continue to work on recognizing and writing our first names. (When practicing at home please be sure that only the first letter is a capital letter; the rest need to be lowercase.) We will soon be moving on to letter recognition, letter formation, and the sound(s) that each letter makes. We will also begin learning the centers, center rotations, and the expectations during center time.
